Play Spotify on Google Home - All you need to know

1. What subscription level do I need to play Spotify on Google Home?

Google Home supports both Spotify Free and Spotify Premium accounts, but you will get different music based on your subscription.

Spotify Premium

If you have a Spotify Premium account, you can play content on demand. You can get specificsongs, albums or artists along with music based on genre, mood or activity, Spotify’s curated playlists, and your personal playlists.

Spotify Free

If you don't have a Spotify Premium account, you'll get a station of songs inspired by the song, album, artist or personal playlists you asked for. You can't get specific songs, albums, artists or personal playlists on demand, but you can ask for music based on genre, mood or activity, or for Spotify-curated playlists.

2. Link Spotify to your Google Home

Google Home is a smart speaker with voice control. You need to set it up using the Google Home app on your phone or computer. Run the app and link your Google and Spotify accounts. You can also set Spotify as your default music service. Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same WiFi as your Google Home. Follow below detailed steps:

Download the Google Home app and open it.
Tap Account in the top-right.
Check the Google Account shown is the one linked to your Google Home or Google Nest device. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
Back on the home screen, tap + in the top-left, then Music and audio.
Select Spotify and tap Link Account, then Log in to Spotify.

Now just ask Google to play something, e.g. "OK Google, play Discover Weekly".

3. Play Spotify on Google Home on demand with Spotify free

If you have Spotify free, you can only hear a station of songs inspired by the song/album/artist you requested (free radio service). You can't play songs on demand. How to bypass this limitation?
